Even pharmacies have to build genuine brands

The mentality of pharmacists is typically more medical than business-oriented. However small independent pharmacies must think about their marketing now more than ever. After all, that is the maing thing that survival on the highly competitive market. 

In many cases the pharmacy market replicated the situation of the food retail industry. However it's about 15 years behind in this respect. Many small independent shops couldn't compete when the big aggressive franchises like Tesco or Kaufland came to prominence during the 1990s. And those that did started to discuss how to survive. They either associated themselves with virtual business alliances that helped them with marketing and buying bulk good, or they found their own way how to differentiate themselves.
